PureWorks Young Scientist Prize

PureWorks announces the establishment of the "Young Scientist Prize," to be awarded annually to students in their early years of their science education. The Prize is given in recognition of outstanding scientific research that helps promote health and wellness of people throughout the world. By providing such awards, PureWorks encourages young students to include a strong science component in their educational pursuits.

This years' PureWorks Young Scientist Prize with an accompanying cash award of $250 was awarded to Rachael Richardsen, a student at Orion Junior High School for her science fair project entitled, "Just When You Thought the Playground was Safe." Miss Richardsen studied the bacterial populations on playground equipment at various elementary school locations, demonstrating that microbiological contamination is present on many surfaces. She conducted the experiments herself, collecting samples and culturing them on various media, and said she "learned a lot from her research." She presented her work at the Utah Science Fair held at Weber State University on March 19-20, 2007, where she competed with hundreds of other students at the fair.

PureWorks congratulates Rachael Richardsen for her exceptional work and recognizes her as an outstanding Young Scientist.
